Out of Google’s Sandbox at Last! Pagerank =4

by Pete Quily on July 23, 2005

My blog finally got out of Google’s sandbox!

Google doesn’t usually apply Pagerank to a site until it’s been around for a while. Pagerank can range from 0, not ranked at all to 10, ie Apple. Interestingly Microsoft is only a 9. Sometimes people call not having your page ranked for a while by Google as being in Google’s sandbox.

So now Adult ADD Strengths no longer has a Pagerank of 0, but a Pagerank of 4. Done it in less than 4 months with about 100 posts. Blogs are pretty useful that way. Lot quicker than it took to get my website to a Pagerank of 4. Here’s a quick way to check a website’s Pagerank

I found this out a few days ago but didn’t want to post it then, since it was the morning of the 2nd London bombing, and didn’t seem like a good time for any celebration.

On another positive note the We’re Not Afraid Blog now has 23,000 photo submissions. It’s in the sandbox too, no pagerank despite 333,000 links to the site on Alta Vista. To find out who links to a site try typing link:www.domainname.com in a search engine. Google will only show some of the links, Altavista show’s a lot more.

Pete,

Congrats on getting the blog ranking! Do you think it was because of the number of posts, or link backs, or….?

Thanks Terry,

my guess is the combination of posts, backlinks and links from my website, + luck?

Google refactors their Toolbar PageRank a couple of times a year. Don’t confuse Toolbar PR with actual PageRank. You can read more about it here:

Thanks Terry.

Rian,

I know that google readjust’s their rankings a few time a year.
in terms of your article that’s one definition of pagerank but most people find a page rank of 4,5 or 6 easier to use and more practical than 400,000.
