Adult Attention Deficit Disorder Feature Story on my Co-Author in This Sunday’s Vancouver Province

by Pete Quily on August 5, 2005

It looks like on of our two main papers in Vancouver, the Vancouver Province will be printing an story on Jeff Hamilton. He’s the client who’ve I’ve coached and am co-writing a book with on adult Attention Deficit Disorder. It’s supposed to be in the unwind section this Sunday, August 7th, (assuming no major world disaster happens and the story get’s bumped). They have a circulation about half a million readers a day. If you’re in the lower mainland, you might want to have a look. The reporter is Damian Inwood.

Update
The story is on Page B2 of the paper, and it’s a full page article.

It will be about his personal story with Attention Deficit Disorder. Some of the problems he’s had, the different solutions he’s tried to deal with it, Adult ADHD coaching with me, ADD medication, therapy, self awareness and stress reduction techniques etc. It also seems like I may be mentioned a bit in the story.

Not sure what the end result will be, hopefully pretty balanced and informative.

One reason we’re writing the book is to get more awareness out there on Attention Deficit Disorder, especially Adult Attention Deficit Disorder. Approximately 85% of adults with ADD don’t know they have it. Undiagnosed and untreated ADD can create a lot of havoc in your work, family and social relationships. Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder are more likely to self medicate with tobacco, alcohol and illegal drugs, and have higher rates of depression and anxiety.

Properly treated through ADD coaching, ADD medication, and other treatment methods ADD can be a competitive advantage. See the 151 positives characteristics of people with Attention Deficit Disorder.

In my view it’s a tragedy that people with Attention Deficit Disorder have to needless suffer because there’s not enough awareness and understanding of ADD especially adult ADD out there and there’s so much ignorant negative stigma against the condition. People are suffering needlessly because of the ignorance and stupidity of others.

Hopefully the book will be one way of us getting the message out there that Attention Deficit Disorder is real, can have serious negative consequences in your life, and be an advantage in your life if treated properly. Hopefully it will encourage more people to get diagnosed and treated for ADD, whatever treatement methods they choose to use.

We want it to be a story of hope, and hopefully inspiration of one man’s journey in dealing with ADD. There will also be practical tips on dealing with Adult ADD.

If you do read the story, please post your comments here and let me know what you thought about it.
