True enough, getting to sleep has never been easy short of wearing myself out physically. i learned that running late in the evening was not only against zen buddist philosophy also made falling to sleep extra difficult. however, i used to find that a run before 5:00 pm would help. however, the older i get the faster i run. so, it seems it used to work. any other suggestions?

good point Cindy, one other idea is to set an clock radio alarm to an easy listening type station even if that's not what you normally listen to vs a hard rock one. I like rock among other types of music, but it's not always the best way to be woken up (unless you really like the song they're playing).

I use an old Nokia cell phone with an alarm because the ringer gradually gets louder so I don't get scared to death awakened. It's much better for me to get awake quieter and gentler rather then put me in a state of shock the minute I wake up. I don't feel that being jolted awake is good for most because I just feel anxious the minute I wake up. Not good when you have an anxiety problems anyway.

I got a charge out of the sonic gernade. I use a sonic alarm made for the hearing impaired. While it can make a rather loud alarm, what I like best is the vibrator I put under my mattress along with flashing lights when it goes off. No more problems waking up. Getting up, no that's another story.

Hi Loy,

many adults and children with ADD often have difficulty sleeping. I think we need to plan to spend some extra time to wind down our racing brains before being able to get to sleep ie no tv, computer, video games/electronic stimulation an hour before getting to bed, etc.

I have a question. Is there a connection between people who oversleep and ADHD? I have been diagnosed with it and I notice that I have trouble stopping my thoughts long enough to sleep.

Never mind, I think I just answered my own question
