4th Annual ADHD Awareness Day is Wednesday September 19 2007

The 4th Annual ADHD Awareness day will be Tuesday oops Wednesday, September the 19th, 2007.

ADDA, The Attention Deficit Disorder Association has created an ADHD Awareness Day Toolkit

It list the US senate resolution and gives some ideas on how ADDers can:

  • Promote ADHD Awareness
  • Organize an ADHD Awareness Day event
  • Promote the event

ADDA also has some ADHD teleclasses for that week.

Last year some members of my Vancouver Adult ADD support group and I organized an ADD Awareness day in Vancouver.Unfortunately Canada is still behind the US in general awareness of ADHD and resources to manage it. Hopefully that will change and one day we’ll see a Canadian ADHD awareness day and hopefully a global one. (today Canada, tomorrow the world!).

BarCamp Vancouver 07 Attention Surplus Condition (ADHD) Presentation

Filed under: ADD Strengths, ADD and Technology Pete Quily @

Went to my first Barcamp Vancouver yesterday, and followed the 8th rule of Barcamp, by doing a presentation, Attention Surplus Condition in Technology. The competitive advantages and challenges associated with having ADHD in the tech sector.

It went pretty well despite a bit of lack of sleep (I’m not a morning person) and had to be there at 9 to pitch it after staying out at the party the night before. So the tea hadn’t kicked in by pitch time so my brain was still waking up. Fortunately Vancouver fashion photographer and blogger Kris Krug put in a good word for me.

23 Ways to Help Clue In the Web 2.0 Illiterates

Filed under: ADD and Technology Pete Quily @

Tired of trying to explain blogging, flickr and wikis to your non-Digerati friends and co workers? Not that everyone needs Web 2.0 literacy mind you, some do very well without it.

But if you want to help educate the non Web 2.0 illiterate masses in your company/ organization and get them more web 2.0 literate, the free Learning 2.0 Site developed by North Carolina’s Charlotte & Mecklenburg County public library would be a good place to start. via Wired.

They have 23 different lessons on how to learn and use Web 2.0 related technologies. Looks pretty cool, they introduce the topics and get you to actually create something, so it’s practical not just theoretical learning.

Is It Depression or ADHD?

Filed under: ADD Awareness, ADD Treatment Pete Quily @

Is it Depression? Is it ADHD? Is it both?

Some people who get diagnosed with ADHD do so because they’ve been undergoing therapy and antidepressant medication for Depression or Dysthymia (chronic low level depression, a condition that is very often missed) for years with little improvement. They finally start asking about ADHD and see someone that is actually trained in diagnosing and treating ADHD (unfortunately, far too few medical professionals), get a diagnosis of ADHD.

Then they start managing their ADHD by ADHD medication, adult ADHD coaching or therapy, exercise, lifestyle changes, greater self awareness and participation in Adult ADD support groups, and the grey fog of depression starts to lift.
