Vancouver WordPress Camp April 30 For WP Bloggers

Filed under: Vancouver Pete Quily @

UPDATE: The event is getting very popular, make sure you register on their facebook group and show up early if you want a seat.

For my non blogging readers, WordPress is a very popular, free, open source blogging platform that this blog and many others are run on. Hopefully more people with Adult ADHD will start blogging to raise awareness of the negatives AND positives of Adult ADHD and help reduce the stigma relating to the number 2 genetically inherited condition after height.

Tazzu is organizing a free Vancouver WordPress Camp April 30th from 5.30-8.30pm at The Network Hub
3rd floor - 422 Richards Street. It is also home to the Vancouver Entrepreneur meetup run by the friendly multiple entrepreneur Minna Van.

Dr. Ed Hallowell is Doing an ADHD Workshop in Vancouver Nov 8, Calgary Nov 7th

Filed under: ADD Conferences and Workshops, Vancouver Pete Quily @

ADD guru Dr. Ed Hallowell will be doing a workshop for children and teenagers with ADHD in Vancouver on November the 8th, and in Calgary November the 7th. He’s brought here by Jack Hirose and Associates who do mental health workshops all across Canada.

More details including fees here.

He’s the author of several books on ADHD, ie Delivered from Distraction, Driven to Distraction, and other mental health topics.

Delivered from Distraction is the first book I suggest my ADD coaching clients read.

He taught at Harvard medical school and is a great speaker (I’ve seen him speak in Seattle). He also doesn’t see ADD as 98% pathology unlike some ADD authors. He sees the negatives and positives of people with ADHD.

Living with ADHD Tonight 10pm Knowledge Network

Filed under: ADD Awareness, Vancouver Pete Quily @

Just a quick heads up to my BC readers. One of my coaching clients just sent me a link telling me about a show on tonight Monday at 10pm PST on the Knowledge Network called Living with ADHD. So if you live in BC or get the knowledge network, you might want to check it out. Here’s their description.

Some believe that Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is the result of too much television, a poor diet, or parents who just can’t be bothered. Try telling that do the Fischer family where two children have ADHD, as does Charlotte, their mother. As a youth, Charlotte’s life was blighted by years of people refusing to believe there was anything wrong with her, leading to failure at school and drug abuse. Now she is determined this will not happen to her children. Full of love, laughter, and tears, this is an uplifting story of a family triumphing over a tough situation.

Canadian Mental Health Association’s Annual Mental Health Week (May 7-13th) focuses on Work/Life Balance

Filed under: ADD Coaching, Vancouver Pete Quily @

When I first read the Canadian Mental Health Association’s press release about their 56th annual mental health week, I thought it was from a coaching association. I.e. the focus on life career balance issue is a very common issue that we coaches deal with, especially those of us who coach adults with attention deficit disorder, who often seem to go-go-go until they end up spinning their wheels going nowhere, crash or burn out.

Self care activities and working on life career balance issues are hugely important for ADDers, who often tend towards perfectionism, workaholism and putting themselves last.

Vancouver Blogger Meetup April Edition

Filed under: Vancouver Pete Quily @

Went to another Vancouver Blogger Meetup on Wednesday at the Whip. As usual had an interesting time talking with other Vancouver bloggers and twittering Robert Sanzalone who’s over in Japan teaching ESL and doing tech activites.

Jan Karlsbjerg was organized enough list all the bloggers there with links and RSS feeds and a group shot. John Biehler has some photos up too. One thing about hanging around other bloggers is there’s not usually a problem with a finding someone with an opinion on a wide variety of topics, not too much talk about the weather.
