Of Rain. In Vancouver. In my City. I’m not making this up.
Yes, the Economist has voted Vancouver as the most liveable city out of a survey of 127 cities around the world. Everyone seems to want to live here (and the rents and housing prices reflect that).
It snows about 5 days out of 365 here and usually a very small amount at that. We have mountains and the ocean, the view’s are great, BUT it’s not all a bed of roses.
Semi constant rain and clouds that sometimes last for weeks can be a bit depressing for a prairie boy used to snow but SUNSHINE as well.
We’ve had 28 straight days of rain, coming close to the record of 29 days set in 1953. 28. Thats 27 too much.
That’s why I enjoyed readingGerard Montigny of Succeeding with ADHD’s article Shedding light on ADHD and the winter blues.
He talks about SAD (seasonal affective disorder), the possible ADD connection, and the special lamps to help deal with it.
He tried one out for a few days and found
To my surprise, I am actually noticing a pronounced difference just a few days into this little experiment. I am feeling better and more energetic after sitting under the lamp, experiencing more focus in terms of school work. I am trying to sit underneath the lamp twice daily each session consisting of 30 minutes, once in the morning and then again in the afternoon.
I’ve been thinking about buying one of those for quite some time but it seem just when I’m getting irritated enough to actually do it we get some sunshine for a while and the thought goes away. Maybe next year though.
Now, Pete,
Yes, we have had 28 days of rain (or, by now it’s 31. I believe), and yes, it can and often does rain a lot in the winter in Vancouver…but we often have really nice, sunny summers and our falls can have spectacular weather.
Just wanted to set the record straight for those that might think it rains here all the time… because it doesn’t. 🙂
Right on with your blogging. You are doing such a great job!
Cheers,
Juliet
