Vancouver Mayor Declares ADHD Awareness Week in Vancouver, BC Oct 14-20th 2012 2nd Year To Do So

Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson Declares ADHD  Awareness Week in Vancouver, BC,  Oct 14-20th, 2012. This is the 2nd Year Vancouver city council and the Mayor declared ADHD Awareness Week in Vancouver, BC. I have a scan of the proclamation below.

Last year was the first year when Mayor Gregor Robertson read out the resolution and I and Vancouver Parks Commissioner Sarah Blyth who has gone public on having Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder spoke after. Vancouver Councilor Andrea Reimer also helped to make this happen.

Have a look at the videos and the photos of the 2011 ADHD Awareness ceremony at Vancouver city hall

9 years of ADHD Awareness Weeks/days for in the US starting with the original nation resolution in the US Senate in 2004. Zero ADHD Awareness Weeks/Days in Canada. None at the Federal level. None at the provincial level. None at the municipal level.

My non profit Vancouver Adult ADD Support Group along with our partners have organized 26 25 libraries in 8 cities in BC’s lower mainland to have ADHD book displays and our ADHD Awareness Week poster, plus several bookstores and a info table at the Roundhouse for ADHD Awareness Week in BC’s lower mainland

So we’re in public libraries in Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, North Vancouver City, and Aldergrove. We’ve had a great response.

Here’s the main International ADHD Awareness Week page with resources and more.

As far as I know, Vancouver is still the only city in Canada to declare ADHD Awareness Week. Hope there will be more Canadian cities soon, maybe a province? Hopefully the Canadian federal government will declare ADHD Awareness Week.

What have/will you be doing to help get the word out about ADHD Awareness week?
